The Mushroom

Our base of operations

Our craft room

Our safe little sanctuary

Every witchy small biz needs a place to grow — and for us, that place is affectionately known as The Mushroom. It’s not a fancy workshop or a pristine studio. It’s a soft, slightly chaotic room tucked into our home. But to us? It’s everything: our office, sewing room, stockroom, packaging station, game den, and most importantly — my safe space.

This is where the magic happens. Literally ✨

What we use it for

The Mushroom wears many hats. Some days, it’s all spreadsheets, order packing, and oil infusions. Other days, it’s quiet, tea, nap breaks, and stitching fabric key chains while a movie hums in the background. It holds our dried herbs, machines, stock, and more half-finished projects than I care to count.

It’s where we:

  • Work on Sapphic Self (and yes, occasionally have a sims, house flipper or Bitcraft binge)

  •  Sew our fabric goods like heat packs and face cloths

  • Store ingredients, stock, labels, tools, and herbs

  • Take mental health breaks, naps, and quiet moments

  • Breathe, rest, and feel safe
The Mushroom has seen us full of ideas, overworked, burnt out, giddy after markets, and unsure of what comes next. It holds it all. And it holds us.

Why we call it 'The Mushroom'

Because it’s small, kind of dark, a little chaotic, and full of life. It’s soft, warm, normally a bit messy, and full of colour and intention; like a mushroom patch in a deep forest. It’s where beautiful things grow.

The Mushroom isn’t a showroom. It’s a lived-in, well-loved space with roots. It’s where love and craft and creativity meet, even on the hard days.

The Room Itself

This was the first room we fully decorated when we moved in. The lower half of the walls are a deep forest green. There’s wallpaper on the upper walls that cost more than I care to admit (but I have no regrets). It’s exactly how I wanted it — soft, grounded, and slightly magical.

My dad built me a custom desk that fits perfectly into the room, and it makes crafting and creating feel that little bit more special. We’ve got a single bed for naps and movie days, storage tucked into corners, and a trusty IKEA KALLAX that holds the heart of our projects.
There’s a TV mounted on the wall — perfect for background noise or full-on cosy film evenings. My curved monitor & gaming PC setup helps when I’ve got multiple projects on the go, or want to work, watch, and play all at once.
It’s a room that lets me breathe. It’s made doing digital work — like this blog post — just that little bit easier. In a world that’s always on the go and everything is online, I feel incredibly lucky to have this space I can work in.

A Final Note from The Mushroom

Running a handmade biz with chronic illness and complex mental health means creating a space that holds more than just stock — it has to hold you. Your weird schedule. Your pain days. Your ideas, hopes and your anxieties or doubts.

The Mushroom is all of that for me. It’s authentically me, messy in the best way.

It’s not perfect, but it’s ours. And that is more than enough.
Thank you for being part of this story  🍄

With love and a hot cup of tea,

Tia
